Jesus Didn’t Come to Bring Religion
Dec25
Jesus didn’t come to bring religion. The world had religion prior to His arrival. Ironically, despite religion’s ability to allow people to reach out to God, God still had to send Christ to reach people. Jesus isn’t a religion.
Jesus didn’t come to bring tradition. The world had tradition long before Christ came, and it too didn’t solve mankind’s problems. In fact, it was tradition that tried to stop Him from delivering His message. It was tradition that caused His own people not to believe Him. Jesus isn’t a tradition.
Jesus didn’t come to bring laws and rituals. The world had law and ritual before He arrived. In reality, law and ritual were given by God to point to people’s need for a Messiah. Jesus isn’t a set of rules and practices.
Jesus didn’t come to bring political power. The world had politics prior to Christ. His followers were at times frustrated by His lack of political ambition. The balance of politics and theology in Jesus’ day was the mechanism that sent Him to the cross. Jesus isn’t a political party.
Jesus came to rescue us from our sin and to pick us up where we fail. Sin entered the world long before Christ stepped foot on fallen soil. However, forgiving sins and bringing eternal life was the sole concern of the Son of God. Jesus is a Savior. Jesus is a lifeboat. Jesus is the only hope for mankind. What Jesus accomplished is higher than religion, tradition, law or political action. He was God come to Earth to heal His people.
